Behind the Lens

Tampa Bay wedding photographer · storyteller · perpetual golden-hour chaser

Hello, I'm Gerardo

I photograph weddings with the emotion and energy they carry so you can relive those moments again.

Gerardo Luna, Tampa Bay photographer and filmmaker

Fifteen years as a professional photographer in Tampa Bay have taught me where to find every pocket of golden light this city has to offer, from the waterfront magic of the Tampa Riverwalk at sunset to the lush canopies of Philippe Park in Safety Harbor. That local knowledge isn't just a convenience. It's how I find the shot nobody else sees.

My approach is documentary at its core. I follow the energy of the day, move quietly through the crowd, and wait for the real moments, like the father holding back tears, the groom who can't stop smiling, the flower girl who decided this was a great time to spin. Those are the photographs you will cherish twenty years from now.

I also shoot a handful of destination weddings each year. Some previous destinations include the volcanic backdrops of Hawaii, the vibrant streets of New Orleans, and the charm of Georgia's historic estates. I was born in Guatemala and would love to introduce you to some of my favorite hidden locations there, with dramatic views of volcanoes, historic architecture, and a sense of place unlike anywhere else. If your wedding is somewhere beautiful, I want to be there.

Shooting Philosophy

Light first, always

Every location decision, every moment I chase — it starts with the quality of light. Florida gives us extraordinary light. I use all of it.

Intentional observation

The best photographs happen when you forget the camera is there. I observe, anticipate, and capture the moments that unfold naturally — while offering thoughtful guidance when it matters most.

Film sensibility, digital precision

My editing is true-to-life, polished, and timeless — influenced by the look of film but built for the resolution and reliability of modern sensors.

Tampa Local

I know this place the way you know your own handwriting.

I've watched this city evolve into a destination where historic architecture, waterfront views, and modern elegance come together beautifully. From the industrial charm of Armature Works and the timeless character of Oxford Exchange to the historic streets of Ybor City, Tampa offers a backdrop as unique as the couples who celebrate here.

Beyond the city, the surrounding coastlines of St. Petersburg and Clearwater provide everything from grand historic venues to quiet beachfront moments. I've photographed celebrations throughout these spaces and understand how each location changes with the light, the season, and the energy of the day.

I know where the golden light falls in October at 6 p.m., which corners create the most intimate portraits, where ceremony audio can become challenging, and how to find a quiet moment even in the middle of the busiest reception. That local knowledge allows me to create photographs that feel effortless, intentional, and uniquely connected to your day. Because knowing a place isn't just about knowing the venues. It's about knowing where the moments happen.
